Mavs’ Texas Legends Hire New Head Coach, GM; Details

With the NBA offseason now hitting a lull at the end of July, the number of free agency moves and trade acquisitions across the league have slowed down. But ... if you’re a fan of the Dallas Mavericks’ G League affiliate, the Texas Legends, you have a lot to be excited about with two new high-level additions.
On Tuesday, the Legends announced the hiring of both a new head coach and general manager — both coming from within the Mavericks’ organization. Jordan Sears will become the Legends’ seventh head coach in team history while Terry Sullivan will take over as the new general manager in Frisco.
Sears joins the Legends after spending the last two seasons with the Mavs as the head video coordinator. Prior to his time in Dallas, Sears spent time with the Milwaukee Bucks, where he assisted with player development, working with the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo.
In an official press release to the media, both Sears and Sullivan spoke on their excitement that comes along with their new jobs for the Legends.
“I’m thrilled to get to Frisco to help develop our players, staff, and franchise,” Sears said. “I’ve heard about the unique experience, the incredible fanbase, and the community focus of the Legends. This is a great opportunity for me both personally and professionally to come into such a high-energy, supportive atmosphere with a team that’s focused on working hard and having fun doing it.”
For Sullivan, he comes to Frisco with 13 years of experience working with the Mavericks. This past season, Sullivan finished up his first year as the Director of Player Personnel for the Mavs, which he’ll continue to serve while taking on his role as GM of the Legends.
“Our goal is to develop players, coaches and staff in Frisco that can ultimately contribute to the success of the Mavericks,” Sullivan said.
Last season in Frisco, Mavs then-rookie guard Jaden Hardy spent significant time with the Legends for practices, games and overall development. In 11 games, Hardy averaged 28.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game while shooting 54.6 percent from the field and 49 percent from downtown.
With the additions of Sears and Sullivan, and the possibility of rookies Dereck Lively II and O-Max Prosper spending time in the G League, the new leaders of the Legends’ player development background could play a big role in the team's success for years to come.
