When the Brooklyn Nets traded Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks, the story quickly became the uncertainty of this upcoming offseason. Irving can become a free agent this summer, which would allow him to either sign a deal with Dallas, or decide to take his talents elsewhere.

Those who have followed Irving throughout his career know that his desire to be in a certain situation can change suddenly, as was the case in Cleveland, Boston, and Brooklyn. At one point in time, Irving expressed a desire to stay with all three of those teams, and he eventually ended up facilitating his way out of each spot. Could the same happen to the Dallas Mavericks? For now, Irving doesn't want to discuss it.

When asked on Monday about his future with the Mavericks, Irving requested no more questions on that topic, saying, "It just puts unwanted distractions on our team… It’s very draining to ask what’s the long term."

Some have been skeptical about Irving's future in Dallas, although much of that skepticism has been due to the possibility of the star guard signing with the Lakers - a team who now may commit to D'Angelo Russell in the offseason. Should the Lakers retain Russell, who they recently acquired from the Minnesota Timberwolves, Irving would seemingly be without his presumed to be preferred landing spot in free agency.

For now, the newest Dallas Mavericks star wants the focus to remain on the present.
