A member of Brooklyn's G League affiliate team was left wounded in a gunfight last weekend.

Multiple reports have indicated that Long Island Nets cager Terry Roberts was hurt by a stray bullet outside of a Philadelphia bar early Sunday. Authorities immediately responded as the 23-year-old guard sustained a gunshot in his upper chest.

Background of the crime

Roberts arrived in Philadelphia and met a friend over the weekend, in which they took a stop outside of a bar. A sudden shootout burst out of the scene, and Roberts was then struck by an unknown gunman.

Four people left the incident while riding a grey Nissan Altima, and an off-duty guard fired over these escaping suspects. Philadelphia police have confirmed that Roberts isn't involved in the altercation, and no arrests have been conducted yet, with investigations continuing to roll.

Prayers up

Roberts was in a critical condition as he was brought to the hospital, but he thankfully survived from the gun wounds. Doctors have taken off the ventilator, and he was able to talk with his parents the following day.

"He's healing," said Roberts' mother. "He's doing well. He is in a state of shock. This is a traumatic situation that's happened.”

"Terry Roberts was the victim of a crime on Sunday morning in Philadelphia, and we are in the process of gathering more information about the incident," the Long Island Nets said in a statement. "He is currently in stable condition, and he is expected to make a full recovery. Our thoughts are with him and family at this time. Due to the ongoing law enforcement investigation, we will have no further comment."

A standout prospect from Georgia, Terry went undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft but ultimately joined Long Island’s program following a camp invite. In 19 games for the team this season, Roberts averaged 7.2 points and 2.9 assists.

Roberts expressed sheer desire to continue his basketball work for Long Island amid the incident that took place, but his recovery will certainly require him a significant time before he finally makes it back to the G League hardwood.
