New Bicentennial Unity Plaza to open next to Indiana Pacers arena next week

The Indiana Pacers announced that the Bicentennial Unity Plaza, a public space currently being constructed on the North side of Gainbridge Fieldhouse, will open next week and contain several events.
The plaza, described by Gainbridge Fieldhouse as a "focal point for gatherings, offering a space where all residents and visitors will be greeted by captivating landscapes & art installations and, of course, a basketball court for some friendly competition that will serve as an ice rink in the winter," started being built last summer. In addition to being an extension of the arena with basketball courts, Pacers Sports & Entertainment hopes that it "will provide a flexible space for diverse community programs, civic conversations, and artistic performances."

A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on August 24, which will officially open the plaza to the public. Following the opening, four days of free events will take place in the newly-opened space, including the following per PS&E:
Thursday, August 24
Ribbon Cutting Celebration and Indiana Fever Pre-Game Party
Friday, August 25
Happy Hour on the Plaza
Saturday, August 26
Indy Night Market on the Plaza
Sunday, August 27
JR. HOOPS Mini Clinic and Love of the Game (painting, crafts, coloring stations, and more).
"Bicentennial Unity Plaza is a canvas, literally and figuratively, in our downtown, a place where Indy's eclectic arts and culture will be on display and the backdrop against which visitors can celebrate our shared values," PS&E CEO Rick Fuson said in a statement.
Commission Row, a dining and event space, is under construction just to the East of the plaza and is expected to be completed by All-Star weekend in February of 2024.
