Serge Ibaka, who exited NBA last season after being waived by Indiana Pacers, signs with Bayern Munich

Ibaka was traded to the Pacers in February

Forward Serge Ibaka, who was waived by the Indiana Pacers in February, has signed a contract with FC Bayern Basketball.

Bayern Munich announced the signing Saturday. "We are incredibly proud and happy that such a highly decorated athlete like Serge Ibaka believes in our journey. We are convinced that he will not only be a tremendous asset in terms of sports but also an enrichment for German basketball. I am certain that our young players will greatly benefit from his vast experience," Herbert Hainer, the President of the German club, said in a statement.

Ibaka only temporarily ended up with the Pacers. The veteran big man was a part of a trade that sent Jae Crowder to the Milwaukee Bucks. In exchange, the Bucks sent Ibaka, George Hill, and Jordan Nwora to Indiana, and Ibaka was waived before doing anything for the franchise.

The 2019 NBA Champion was on the Pacers cap sheet for just under $1.85 million after the deal. His contract was fully guaranteed.

Ibaka, a first-round pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, has 14 years of NBA experience. He holds career averages of 12.0 points and 7.1 rebounds per game, and he made three All-Defensive teams. His resume as a player is impressive.

"For me, it is a privilege to join this historic, globally renowned sports club, so that the basketball team can rise to the top of Europe. I had a long NBA career, but I approach this new chapter with a lot of enthusiasm," Ibaka said in a team-issued statement.

Ibaka is not on the Pacers books any more and had no impact with the franchise, but the blue and gold was technically the last team to hold his rights. Now, his career will take him to Europe. The defensive-minded big man turns 34-years old tomorrow.
