According to a report from Joe Vardon and Shams Charania in The Athletic, Indiana Pacers star guard Tyrese Haliburton is a strong candidate to don the red, white, and blue during the Paris Olympics this summer.

The report, which names several players that could be a part of the Team USA squad for the 2024 games, lists Haliburton and Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards as players who are being strongly considered for the 12-man roster.

"In addition to the seven bona fide heavyweights listed above, budding superstars Anthony Edwards and Tyrese Haliburton, two members of the USA's 2023 World Cup team, are under strong consideration for the Paris Games, those same sources said," the report reads. The seven other players listed are Jrue Holiday, Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Steph Curry, Joel Embiid, and Jayson Tatum.

The Athletic also named Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo and Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis as two players who are strong final roster candidates. Should every player named be on the team, only one opening would remain.

During NBA All-Star weekend, Haliburton reaffirmed his desire to play for Team USA this summer. "My goal is to play for USA until the wheels fall off. If I get that call to go, I'll be there," he said. The Pacers star was named a finalist for the squad in January.

Haliburton was a key member of the Team USA group that finished fourth in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. He averaged 8.6 points and 5.6 assists per game during the event. "We feel like those guys are a great change of pace. They move the ball so well, they're both such good passers and playmakers. They understand when to put it on the floor and attack, but they both have the ability to find cutters," Team USA head coach Steve Kerr said of Haliburton and Lakers guard Austin Reaves last summer.

Haliburton is currently averaging 21.4 points and 11.6 assists per game for the Pacers.
