What Willie Green Said After The New Orleans Pelicans Beat The Memphis Grizzlies

Pelicans head coach Willie Green comments on his team defeating the Memphis Grizzlies.

New Orleans defeated a short-handed Memphis squad, 96-87, to improve their record to 32-22 this season. Brandon Ingram hit key shots for the Pelicans near the end of the game.  He ended the contest just a point short of hitting 9,000 career points.

"I'm sure he'll get that next game," Willie Green said. "But it shows his ability to score, and hopefully, he can continue to do that for us."

The Pelicans' player of the game was Herb Jones, who scored 17 points, nine rebounds, and five steals. "Herb's been shooting the ball well lately. And he's getting more and more confident in his shot," Green cited.

What Did Pelicans Coach Willie Green Say?

Time for a All-Star Break: "No. You're right. It's that time of season. A couple games before the break. Every team is a bit fatigued, but first credit to them."

Overcoming Adversity: "But we found a way at the end to win the game, and that's the important part for us."

Improving Clutch Performances in Crunch Time: "BI hit some big shots to close the game out."

Game Turnaround Thanks to Jose, Najee, Trey, and Larry: "They were awesome. The moment those guys got in the game, Jose, Najee, Trey, and Larry, the game turned. They play with energy, toughness, speed, force, and it was fun to watch. And, you know, we have to get off to better starts, but Those guys are huge for us."

Struggles in Shooting Percentage: "Is that because of their defense? Is that because of their physicality? Or, is it the length of time that y'all had to play this week?"

Overcoming Challenges in the NBA: "It's just that time of year when you have to find ways to win, no matter who the opponent is, and give our guys a lot of credit in the locker room. That's what they did tonight."

New Orleans plays Washington at home on Valentine's Day at 7:00 PM CT. The Wizards are reeling at 9-44 on the year.
