HOUSTON — Danny Green's time with the Houston Rockets was over before he was able to play one game. Green and the Rockets reached a buyout agreement Sunday afternoon, three days after the franchise landed him in a three-team trade that sent Eric Gordon to the Los Angeles Clippers.

A source told Inside The Rockets Houston wanted to use the 35-year-old veteran as a spot-up shooter off the bench. Houston is currently 29th in 3-point shooting (32.8 percent).

But on the latest episode of Inside the Green Room podcast, Green said the uncertainty surrounding his future with the franchise led to his jettison.

"Houston took an interest in me," Green said. "I appreciate them for trading for me. They said they liked me and wanted to keep me on board, but they weren’t willing to offer an extension at the time.

"They talked, we discussed. They parted ways in a good, cordial manner. It took a couple of days, but we got it done."

Due to a torn ACL and LCL injury to his left knee, Green's recovery limited him to three games with the Memphis Grizzlies this season.

He sustained the knee injury during the Philadelphia 76ers' second-round series against the Miami Heat in May.

Green has re-joined the Cavaliers after starting his career in Cleveland following the 2009 NBA Draft. He was a second-round pick (no. 46 overall). Green played 20 games before joining the San Antonio Spurs the following year.
