Rockets' Jalen Green Needs 'Major Boost' in Efficiency

In this story:
If the Houston Rockets are going to take the next step in their progression towards returning to the playoffs, Jalen Green is going to have to step up.
Green, the No. 2 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, was essentially the first building block in the Rockets' rebuild, and he has proven to be a strong pick so far.
This past season, Green averaged 22.1 points per game to lead the team. Only 22 players around the league averaged more points than Green.
"Houston's hierarchy is tough to set, due both to its abundance of young talent but also some question marks surrounding its marquee prospects," Bleacher Report writes. "Green, the No. 2 pick in 2021, still holds top billing for his explosive athleticism and scoring prowess, but his efficiency needs a major boost."
While Green is in the upper echelon in the points department, he ranks below league average in efficiency. His 14.5 PER ranks 117th in the league, right ahead of Bol Bol, who was cut by the Orlando Magic earlier this month.
Green has superstar potential, so he should be in company with them. If his efficiency doesn't make the jump to where his scoring averages are, he will always be limited in terms of his potential. Perhaps with a new coach and offense, those numbers can leap to where they need to be in order for Green to become a true star in the NBA.
