Rockets Trade Idea: Jae'Sean Tate to Grizzlies?

In a deal proposed by Bleacher Report, the Houston Rockets make a small deal with the division rival Memphis Grizzlies.

The Houston Rockets are about a month away from the start of the season, which means they are putting their finishing touches on the roster.

While we shouldn't expect any major moves to take place before the season starts on Oct. 25, some minor transactions could come about soon.

In a deal proposed by Bleacher Report, the Rockets make a small deal with the division rival Memphis Grizzlies, sending Jae'Sean Tate to Grind City for second-year pros Jake LaRavia and David Roddy.

"They could take their time with LaRavia and Roddy, who may be ready to contribute right as things are starting to jell for Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr. and Alperen Şengün," Bleacher Report writes. "Jae'Sean Tate, meanwhile, turns 28 in October. He could be on the short end of a minutes pinch in Houston. In Memphis, a team that's lost Melton, Anderson and Tyus Jones in recent years, his grit and perimeter defense can help now."

LaRavia and Roddy, both of whom were first-round picks in 2022, fit the Rockets' timeline, but would also have a similar problem to that of Tate when it comes to finding minutes. They would be on the outside looking in while simply occupying roster space.

Tate gives the team some defensive chops that it wouldn't otherwise have, but if the Grizzlies sweetened the pot or were willing to take on Kevin Porter Jr.'s contract, it may entice the Rockets to get a trade like this done to give the roster a little more shape.
