Phoenix Suns' Mikal Bridges Continues to Catch Fire

With injuries continuing to occur for the Phoenix Suns, Mikal Bridges has stepped up in a huge way

Devin Booker might be out of the lineup due to a groin injury but, the Phoenix Suns seem to have a new star player on their hands.

Over his past seven games, Bridges has been averaging 21.7 points, 5.6 assists and 4.7 rebounds. He has also put up over 20 points through his last five contests.

At a time when Booker, Chris Paul, Deandre Ayton and Cam Johnson were all out periodically with injury, Bridges has been the one bright spot of this roller coaster Suns’ season taking over as the team’s number one option during this stretch.

This is not a fluke. Bridges has always shown flashes of what he can accomplish and now is proving that he can be a future all star in the NBA. He will surely be even more of a problem once Phoenix gets fully healthy.

“It’s what we want him to do,” Monty Williams said. “I think when we do get (Devin) Book back, I think teams are going to have to decide like, normally they put the best defender on Book and the next one on Chris (Paul), and so I’m hoping that Mikal can take advantage of those situations, but in those moments, when he’s open like that, he’s got to take those shots and live with the consequences.”

It's not only his offensive dominance lately but Bridges remains one of the most lethal defensive players in the league making his outstanding scoring stretch even more scary for the NBA.

With the way Bridges has been playing as of late, his 4-year, $90-million contract is looking like a bargain for the Suns. If Bridges can continue his impressive play, he is a real threat to take over as Phoenix’s number two option over both Ayton and Paul.

Bridges is becoming a true problem for the NBA and if teams keep underestimating him, he will continue to haunt them down the road.
