Josh Giddey Has Potential to Average Double-Double This Season

With 44 double-doubles to his name already his potential to average one for a full season is high this season.

Entering his third season in the NBA, Josh Giddey could be set up for his best one yet.

In two seasons, Giddey has become an electric option for Oklahoma City and the obvious second hand for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in the Thunder rotation. In those two seasons Giddey has become a dynamic creator for OKC. He has developed his scoring offense, he can rebound and his passing ability is amongst the best in the NBA.

Last season, Giddey averaged 16.6 points, 7.9 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game. It was a huge step forward from his rookie year and his continued growth is evident as he continues to get older and more comfortable in the league.

In his two seasons Giddey has recorded 44 double-doubles in his career, with his number doubling between his rookie year and last season. For chunks of different parts during last year Giddey averaged a double-double overall, and could up that to a full season this year as he continues to improve.

As Oklahoma City continues to get deeper and better, Giddey’s skills off the ball could take more of a jump this season. Giddey’s rebounding and assist numbers would have to take a jump, with rebounding being the closest to reaching the double digit mark.

In 76 games, Giddey notched a double-double in 28 of them, which comes out to nearly 37% of games he played. Giddey has the ability and the chance to average a double-double this season and with the way he is able to fill the stat sheet a Russell Westbrook-like season is in the cards for him this season.

Giddey is an All-Star in the making and could make that jump this season, but will have to maintain his ability to fill the stat sheet. Averaging a double-double isn’t an easy task but with the skill set and the role Giddey has it is more than likely that he has the chance to get it done, especially as more weapons are added around him.
