NBA Trade Market: Former Thunder Lottery Pick Considered 'Quiet Trade Possibility'

Could OKC Thunder guard Josh Giddey be traded at the NBA trade deadline?

With the majority of the league now extension eligible as of today, trade talks around the NBA appear to be heating up. Several high quality players around the league are expected to be on the trade market between now and the NBA trade deadline in February, potentially including at least one member of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

As reported by Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, one trade candidate could be former No. 6 overall pick, Josh Giddey.

"Come February, opposing front offices will surely call Oklahoma City about the trade prospects of Josh Giddey as well, depending on the outcome of the NBA’s investigation regarding his alleged off-court relations," Fischer outlined. "Before the social-media accusations that Giddey had an improper relationship with a minor, other front offices were beginning to pinpoint Giddey as a quiet trade possibility in his own right, this being his third season without improving into a viable 3-point shooter next to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander."

The key thing here is the off-court allegations and what comes of that situation. No team is likely to trade for Giddey until there is more clarity given the risk. However, if that issue alleviates itself, it sounds like the Australian guard could potentially be on the move for the right price.

Another consideration here is Giddey's contract situation, as he becomes extension eligible this summer. Given how much talent is on the Oklahoma City roster, cap space and paying its players in the future has to be taken into consideration.

While trades almost never happen until closer to the deadline, there's already storylines worth monitoring. The Thunder have been really good to start the season, but GM Sam Presti may be willing to make moves sooner than later.

Could Lauri Markkanen of the Utah Jazz be a target?
