Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Confident He's the Best: 'Absolutely'

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander showed a glimpse into his mindset on ESPN Thursday.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continued his MVP campaign with a 37-point effort in a road-win against the Blazers on Wednesday night. The Thunder star continues to propel the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference, and as the playoffs creep up, more eyes are on him than ever.

This will be Gilgeous-Alexander's first playoff series as the No. 1 option and after another unbelievable regular season, there will certainly be expectations.

Friday, Gilgeous-Alexander appeared on ESPN talking about his season to Malika Andrews. He gave respect to the top guards in the west, and showed confidence in himself.

"Anthony Edwards, he was asked recently in an interview with my colleague Stephen A. Smith about the next generation," Andrews said. "You, Luka (Doncic), and he said 'I'm better than both of those guys.'"

"I expect him to say that, I wouldn't expect him to say one of us is better than him," Gilgeous-Alexander said. "The thing about NBA players and especially guys that are that talented, we all believe we're the best. We all believe what we bring to the table is special, unique, and he has every right to think so."

Andrews followed up by asking, "And so you do to?"

Gilgeous-Alexander didn't skip a beat.

"Absolutely," he said with a straight face.

Doncic is also in the MVP conversation alongside Gilgeous-Alexander, and Edwards is a budding superstar on the No. 1 team in the conference. Both could be Gilgeous-Alexander's opposition at some point in the playoffs.

SGA is averaging 31.1 points, 6.5 assists and 5.6 rebounds this season on 54.6% from the floor. His work on both ends of the floor certainly puts him in the conversation for best guard in the NBA. There's a reason he's so confident in his own game.
