With plenty of movement in the Western Conference, Oklahoma City is alone in second place. At 11-5, the team is still flying high and the ceiling is nonexistent.
On Tuesday, the Thunder will have a chance to battle for the No. 1 spot in the conference as the team travels to Minnesota to square off against the first place Minnesota Timberwolves.
Oklahoma City's six-game winning streak that propelled it to a top-five ranking might be over, but the vibes around the organization are still high. A four-point loss to the Joel Embiid-led Sixers is nothing to scoff at. The Thunder played well for the majority of the game and still appear to be well-ahead of schedule.
Losing by four points is even more impressive when you factor into the equation that Oklahoma City was missing a top-three player and a main piece of the team's core in Jalen Williams. The second year wing/forward is averaging 17.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists on 51.8% shooting and has been a key contributor on the young Thunder team.
After missing three games, Williams is back in the lineup and off the injury report. He's expected to be back during Oklahoma City's showdown against the Timberwolves on Tuesday night, which should be a massive lift.
With Chet Holmgren playing at an All-Star level and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in MVP contention, this team is still off to a special start, and the power rankings back that up. Oklahoma City's upcoming stretch of tough games will showcase exactly where this team is at, and also provides an opportunity to shoot even higher up the rankings next week.
