As the Oklahoma City Thunder continue to spotlight their young guys in Summer League, another wrinkle to remember is that the team still has two two-way spots available on the squad.

Thunder rookie Keyontae Johnson, pick No. 50 in the recent draft, will have one of the three available two-way contracts on the season. The Thunder have seen success when utilizing these types of contracts, having had a few conversions to standard contracts.

The two most popular players to translate from two-way contracts are Lu Dort and Aaron Wiggins, who both secured long-term standard contracts with the Thunder.

While the Thunder have a few candidates for the two-way contracts next season, one of the standout options is Jared Butler, who played six games with the Thunder last season. The guard will be 23-years-old as the season starts and is heading into his third season in the league.

Butler is a solid guard option that the Thunder could use on a two-way contract as security if the team begins to deal with injuries. He's a solid, sound playmaker that has the ability to consistently knock down 3-pointers. Heading into his third season, he will be an asset on the Blue as the Thunder continue and use their G League affiliate to develop young talent.

For players like Ousmane Dieng, taking a G League stint and playing alongside a sound playmaker that provides spacing will ultimately benefit both players' development.

Another great option to take the last two-way contract is Caleb McConnell, undrafted rookie from Rutgers. The two-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year has had some solid flashed at Summer League. In the final game at Salt Lake City Summer League, McConnell played 14 minutes, scoring eight points and grabbing four rebounds. He tacked on four assists, three steals and a block.

McConnell showed great flashes of his defense and why he could be playable if needed off a two-way contract. He's got incredible upside and could hold his own playing in an NBA game.
