In this story:

With the Oklahoma City Thunder entering the offseason, it’s officially time to time to switch gears to prospect evaluation mode.

And this year’s impending draft has plenty of players that can help bolster the OKC core.

No matter how unlikely it is Oklahoma City lands certain prospects, the Thunder Fit series will take a look at how they would fit with the current team’s configuration. And with a war chest of assets, you never know how far the front office could move up to acquire a player.

The next prospect up in the series is Boulogne-Levallois forward Bilal Coulibaly, who has skyrocketed in the 2023 NBA Draft cycle of late.

Here’s how Coulibaly could fit alongside the rest of the Thunder core:

Offense

At 6-foot-7 with pristine measureables, Coulibaly has shot up 2023 expert boards with impressive performances in the LNB’s U21 league. But as a precursor, despite earning a roster spot next to No. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama, he’s about as raw as prospects get. And likely won’t have true NBA impact for several seasons.

With that in mind, he’s being looked at for his high-flying athleticism and creative interior scoring methods. He functions well as a cutter, lob and transition threat, straight-line driver and has shown some upside to knock down catch and shoot shots.

With the Thunder, Coulibaly would immediately slot in as one of the more athletic players, but wouldn’t offer much in the ways of ball-handling, driving, passing or playmaking, which feel needed at this point to thrive in the Thunder offense.

He could be a project selection, but if he doesn’t develop in a few key areas, we may not be looking at a Thunder pick.

Defense

Coulibaly has stalwart potential both on and off-ball. But it’s just that: potential.

He’ll have the strength to guard a multitude of positions, but will need to find his sea legs first, especially in his early years in the NBA.

He’ll offer strong on-ball potential as a fluid wing, and should be able to clog lanes with length and attentiveness, all things that would help him thrive in the OKC system. But those things will likely be a ways down the road.
