Tre Mann has seen his role dwindle this far into the season.

OKC Thunder: Is the Tre Mann Experiment Nearly Over?

In this story:

As a former first round draft pick for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Tre Mann displayed some big displays of shot creation and craftiness which lead to some flashy baskets. The ride was fun during his rookie season.

He was an encouraging piece to watch when Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Josh Giddey spent time away with injuries. However, with Gilgeous-Alexander and Giddey having been much healthier this season, they have the ball in their hands much of the time.

This takes opportunities and the ball out of Mann’s hands. This has stunted Mann’s growth as a player. He’s been unable to adapt as a catch-and-shoot, spark plug type player. That doesn’t go to say that the development won’t ever come, but the signs aren’t quite there yet.

Not to mention, Isaiah Joe’s breakout takes away a potential role and need for Mann for the Thunder, too. Though unfortunate, the ball hasn’t rolled in the favor of Mann. If Joe doesn’t show so much progress and contribute to winning so much this season, Mann easily maintains his role.

The 6-foot-5 guard is hurt by the Thunder finding earlier-than-expected success. The team being successful has Mann playing inconsistent minutes, not allowing him to find his rhythm and put together big offensive games.

However, the Mann experiment isn’t over just because he hasn’t had his moment or expanded role yet. He’s still got the make and mold as a perfect player off the bench to lead the second unit, and he and Joe can coexist on the second unit, and could even put together one of the more electric second unit offenses in the league.
