Keyontae Johnson Leads Oklahoma City’s Top Performers in Loss to Rockets

In this story:
Oklahoma City’s core group of prospects sat out Tuesday night, as the Thunder prepare for a back-to-back against the Pacers on Wednesday.
The team simply couldn’t shoot the rock, and against a red-hot Rockets team, it ended up being the Thunder’s downfall. OKC finished the game shooting 5-of-33 from long range while Houston splashed 15 triples. Overall, the Thunder couldn’t find any offensive rhythm shooting just 41.2% from the floor and committing 17 turnovers.
Despite the double-digit loss, there were still a few bright spots. Here’s who led Oklahoma City in its first Vegas loss:
KJ Williams
Williams finally got a chance to show what he could do Tuesday night and took advantage of the opportunity. The former LSU star was active on the glass and in the score sheet, leading the Thunder on both ends of the floor.
He recorded a monstrous double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Williams did so efficiently, too, hitting 8-of-13 shots taken and drilling a 3-point attempt. The big man has received inconsistent playing time but has shown what he brings to the table when on the floor. Oklahoma City struggled all around in the loss, but Williams was one of the few bright spots.
Keyontae Johnson
Outside of Cason Wallace, Johnson was the only Thunder prospect suited up Tuesday night. It didn’t take long for him to have an impact on the game, as the Kansas State product came off the bench red hot.
In 22 minutes, Johnson poured in 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting and a triple from long range.
Caleb McConnell
McConnell didn’t have the best offensive performance, going just 3-of-11 from the floor, but he found a way to impact the game in different ways Tuesday night.
The Rutgers product played solid defense all night long and had a big impact on the glass. He ended the night with six points, 10 rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block. McConnell has made a strong impression on the defensive end with the Thunder all summer long and stuffed the stat sheet with a good portion of the team sitting out.
