Thunder-Ex Kevin Durant, Rookie Chet Holmgren Work Out in Offseason

OKC Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren has been working out with Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant this offseason.

The Oklahoma City Thunder has been keen on the fact that they draft off both on-court fit and personalities. They proved so with Chet Holmgren, the No. 2 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

Holmgren has been known around the league to be one of the hardest workers, and it seems as if in every interview he does, he says something along the lines of just wanting to play basketball.

Evidently, Holmgren has put his actions where his mouth is. He's been seen playing in pickup games with elite talents, the last two Summer Leagues, Team USA Select and even pro-am games when available.

Over the past week or so, Holmgren has been seen working out with elite talents, one being former Thunder superstar Kevin Durant. For Thunder fans, this content is bridging the past to the future.

Both players having been picked No. 2 by the Thunder, or Seattle Supersonics in Durant's case, the two are going to be compared naturally.

They're both tall with a plethora of skills that allow them to play on the perimeter successfully, making them and the offense that much more difficult to guard.

While the Thunder's newest unicorn will draw comparisons to the Phoenix Suns star, the two don't play similar games. They both have unique styles, and it'll be interesting to see if Holmgren working out with Durant this offseason changes his playstyle at all or adds anything to his bag of moves.

The two players started their careers in similar positions, however. Both, again, No. 2 picks with the same franchise. The Thunder has built a young, up-and-coming team. Durant won Rookie of the Year. Holmgren will have the chance, though battling Victor Wembanyama will be difficult. According to KY Betting, Holmgren, at most sports books, holds the second-best odds to win the award.

The next step for Holmgren and the squad to take is making the playoffs and growing with the same squad to become contenders over time.

The similarities between the two unique players' situation along with them working out in the offseason is nothing but a flash from the past for Thunder fans.
