In this story:

Before he could make his highly anticipated NBA debut, Oklahoma City Thunder 7-footer Chet Holmgren suffered a season-ending foot injury in the offseason. As such, he was forced to spend last season recovering and watching from the sideline.

So where is he at his his recovery process? Thunder GM gave an update at his end of season press conference, indicating that everything is on track. He even mentioned that Holmgren playing in NBA Summer League hasn’t been ruled out.

Furthermore, Presti gave his thoughts on how Holmgren handled the time away from playing on-court. While he didn’t get any game action, there was still plenty he was able to learn just being around the team and learning to be a professional.

What’s promising is that the 20-year-old had the right mindset following the injury, ensuring he still made the most of the season despite not being able to play.

“He learned a ton, said Presti. “Just the day-to-day approach. Walking into a building where you’re seeing everything else you want happening in front of you every day and staying that consistent…He’s got a mind that’s different."

The mindset is everything. Holmgren genuinely wants to be one of the best players in the league and has a passion for the game. While it could take him some time to integrate into the Thunder system with his thin frame, he should be an immediate starter and impact player next season.

For Presti’s full thoughts on Holmgren and his year away from on-court action, watch the video above.
