The Best Cowboys Gear

A surge of success in Dallas has led to a similar story off the field too. Here’s a look at how America’s Team merchandise is performing, along with recommendations for stylish items Cowboy fans should seek out

The premier Texas team in a Texas-hosted Super Bowl would be nirvana for the NFL and its suddenly sinking ratings. My boss discussed that exact scenario earlier this week, and it got me thinking about the impact the Dallas Cowboys’ 7-1 start is having elsewhere.

As expected, Cowboys merchandise is filling up online shopping carts and flying off shelves. According to Fanatics, the online retailer that powers the official NFL online store, we know that:

• The Cowboys were the top-selling NFL team in October. To compare, Dallas ranked fourth in October 2015.

Ezekiel Elliott’s No. 21 is the second-best selling jersey this season, behind fellow rookie Carson Wentz of the Eagles, according to Fanatics.

• Ezekiel Elliott was the top-selling NFL player in October. Dak Prescott was third and Jason Witten was 10th. All three also are in the top 10 of jersey-related sales since the start of the season.

• And according to New Era Cap, the NFL’s official headwear provider, the Cowboys lead all teams in sales in 2016. In 2015, Dallas ranked second behind the Patriots.

“The Cowboys star is an iconic logo and their brand is globally recognized,” said Ryan DiNunzio, a senior marketing manager at New Era. “That combined with their success this season has put them back in the No. 1 spot.”

It’s a good jumping off point to run out some of my favorite Cowboys-related products, including items that are licensed and ones produced by smaller, independent brands. Here we go:

• T-SHIRT: 500 Level Tyron Smith NFLPA LicensedClue in the less knowledgeable fans to the real reason behind the Cowboys success—the offensive line—by wearing this left tackle tee.

• VEST: Mitchell & Ness Margin of Victory. I love this vest for many reasons, but the helmet stripe collar is definitely at the top. Pair it with a solid button-down like this and you’re all set.

• JERSEY: Nike Men’s Football (5 player choices). I still don’t condone adults wearing jerseys, but I can’t imagine there are many Dallas area kids who wouldn’t appreciate one of these under a tree next month.

• JACKET: Nike Elite Hybrid Performance. You’ve seen these on coaches and injured players all season, and I like ’em. One of the most wearable sideline pieces the NFL-Nike partnership has produced.

• HAT: New Era On Field 59Fifty Fitted. Speaking of sidelines, Tony Romo has been spotting wearing this all season. I like the simplicity of the D over the Cowboys star in this instance.

• SWEATSHIRT: Mitchell & Ness Field Goal Pullover. The vintage vibe here is just perfect, with the font and the color block sleeves. If I was a Cowboys fan, this would be my go-to gear.

• BASEBALL JERSEY: Ebbets Field Flannels Dallas Eagles 1950. Something doesn’t need to be stamped with the NFL shield to be football apparel. Ebbets is the king of old-school and this 1950s replica hits all the right notes in Big D.

• POSTER: Prinstant Replays The Hail Mary. It’s true: The Cowboys invented the Hail Mary—the play, not the prayer, though fans of America’s Team certainly believe divinity is on their side
