With NFL free agency now opening in under two weeks, the speculation and rumors around the league are starting to increase concerning how each team will take steps to improve the current state of their roster.

This time, the Denver Broncos have found their way into some intriguing discussions of potentially bringing in a new addition to their receiver room.

In a recent piece from NFL insiders Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano of ESPN, they threw out the potential of New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas as a candidate to be added to the Denver Broncos offense, effectively pairing him back with his previous coach, Sean Payton:

“Michael Thomas' contract with the Saints is set to void, making him a free agent. A few scouts pointed out Baltimore as a good fit. The Ravens likely won't re-sign Odell Beckham Jr., and they value established veterans at the receiver position. But a reunion with former New Orleans coach Sean Payton in Denver also makes sense. ‘When he's out there and healthy, he affects the game,’ an NFC scout said.”

Payton and Thomas were together in New Orleans for five seasons from 2016-2021. Thomas was an electric piece of the Saints' offense, securing three Pro Bowl appearances, two All-Pro selections, and a 2019 AP Offensive Player of the Year.

While he might not be quite the same player he was five years ago due to his 31 years of age and persistent recent injury concerns, adding his presence as a weapon for whichever signal caller ends up taking the reigns of this roster would be a welcomed addition at the right price.

The Broncos possessed a solid receiver room headlined by Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy last season, but with both of their futures on the team remaining foggy, there's a chance Denver could be seeking out some outside talent to sign if one or both of them end up departing.

Thomas remains part of the Saints, but their alarming cap concerns could eventually lead to the organization cutting ties with him later this summer. If this pairing does part ways after eight seasons, the Broncos have to be a team worth mentioning for his next team in 2024.
