Broncos' Russell Wilson on Verge of Claiming New NFL QB Record

Another notch in the belt of the future Hall-of-Famer.

At some point over the Denver Broncos' final four regular-season games, quarterback Russell Wilson is likely to rewrite the NFL record book.

Per the team, Wilson is 391 passing yards shy of becoming the first QB in league history to tally nine seasons of 3,000-plus yards through the air with 300 rushing yards in a single year.

Entering Week 15, Wilson has thrown for 2,609 yards, 23 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, adding 315 yards and two scores on the ground. He ranks within the top six in several categories, including completion percentage, TD passes, TD percentage, passer rating, fourth-quarter comebacks, and game-winning drives.

The Broncos are 6-1 across their last seven contests and in the thick of the AFC playoff hunt due in part to Wilson's counting stats.

“We’re in a horse race," he acknowledged after Sunday's victory against the Chargers. "We’re three-quarters of the way through and you have to finish the last quarter strong. I think the best thing that we can do is stay focused on us and playing our best football. I think that’s really key."

Simple math indicates Wilson must average 97.75 passing yards the rest of the way to claim the aforementioned record. Which is, to say, entirely doable.

He'll look to put a dent into the deficit during Saturday's road matchup against the Detroit Lions, whose secondary ranks 19th in pass defense, allowing 226.6 yards per game.
