Report: Broncos Ink Ex-Jaguars TE Chris Manhertz

Purportedly a two-year deal worth $6 million.

After wrangling two of the market's top linemen, the Denver Broncos continued to fortify their offense on the opening day of NFL free agency.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Monday that Denver signed former Jaguars tight end Chris Manhertz to a two-year, $6 million contract. The pact includes $3.34 million guaranteed.

A ninth-year pro, undrafted in 2015, Manhertz has appeared in 109 games with stints in New Orleans (under now-Broncos coach Sean Payton), Carolina, and Jacksonville. More blocker than pass-catcher, he's totaled just 24 career receptions for 255 yards and two touchdowns.

The 6-foot-6, 255-pound Canisius alum, who turns 31 next month, will bolster a thinned-out Broncos TE corps comprised of Greg Dulcich and Albert Okwuegbunam. His addition helps offset the loss of Andrew Beck, who inked a free-agent deal with Houston, and should aid a Denver rushing attack that ranked 21st last season.

“This is testament to coach Payton's ability to know talent and value," Manhertz's agent, Sean Stellato, told 9NEWS' Mike Klis. "Chris comes from humble beginnings. He is a grinder. He’s going to help those young guys and do everything he can to help win a Super Bowl for that loyal fan base.’’
