Report: Dalvin Cook Waiting Until Camp to Make Signing Decision

Rumored Denver Broncos free-agent target, running back Dalvin Cook, is not rushing to put pen to paper with any of his several suitors.

ESPN NFL insider Jeff Darlington reported Friday there's "nothing urgent right now" in regard to Cook's signing decision, "because ultimately he still wants to get a little bit closer to training camp to really nail this down."

Darlington also confirmed the Miami Dolphins remain the purported favorite for the four-time Pro Bowler, who's yet to accept their weeks-old contract offer.

"They still have an offer on the table, one though that Cook is not willing to accept," he said, via Bleacher Report. "I can see him certainly trying to draw up other leverage, he is still interested in joining the Dolphins. But at this point, again, not willing to commit to the deal they have on the table."

Cook, 27, has twice been linked to the Broncos following his release from the Vikings last month. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on June 8 that Denver — led by former Minnesota general manager George Paton — "have an interest in" and have been "monitoring" Cook for "weeks."

On June 27, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero mentioned the Broncos among potential landing spots for Cook, along with the Dolphins, New York Jets, and New England Patriots.

"You still got the Broncos," Pelissero said, before hedging. "Do they have the money for what Dalvin Cook is going to command on the market? It's hard to imagine. They've invested in that position and elsewhere, and they really pushed to make some other things happen in terms of solidifying that offensive line."

Pelissero also noted that Cook is expected to land a "lucrative" deal this summer — at least $10 million per year, supposedly. The Broncos, as of this writing, have about $9.325 million in available salary cap space.

And so it goes.
