Payton Not Discussing Russell Wilson's Knee Scope 'Probably Ever'

Wilson underwent a procedure on his right knee earlier this offseason.

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton allayed any concern over Russell Wilson's offseason knee surgery, characterizing the procedure as a non-issue moving forward.

"Injury wise, I'll keep you posted," Payton said Monday from the NFL Owners Meetings in Arizona. "That's something we're not going to talk a lot about—probably ever.”

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported last week that Wilson underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee following the 2022 campaign. The scope was done to relieve nagging discomfort that had been plaguing the 34-year-old quarterback dating back to his time in Seattle.

Wilson has since resumed throwing and is expected to be ready for the start of Organized Team Activities later this spring.

"He'll be at full health for 2023," Rapoport added.

Wilson — of the $245 million contract — is coming off a dissatisfying debut with the Broncos in which he set career-lows in completion percentage (60.5%) and touchdown passes (16) while missing two starts due to concussion, shoulder, and hamstring ailments.

Battered behind an offensive line that ceded a league-high 63 sacks, he finished as Pro Football Focus' 29th-ranked QB among 39 qualifiers.

"I watched, with every one of you, the season that took place a year ago," Payton bemoaned. "I said this a little bit earlier. There’s probably a little bit of dirt on a lot of people’s hands. When you win five games, it is what it is. I don’t think I need to elaborate any more. It wasn’t good. Wasn’t good on offense, that’s for sure. It was hard film to watch.”
