Report: XFL Sack Leader Trent Harris Invited to Broncos Rookie Camp

Harris played under Wade Phillips in Houston.

Jacques Patrick isn't the only XFL star who could soon call Denver home.

NFL Network reported Tuesday that Houston Roughnecks pass-rusher Trent Harris has been invited to next week's Broncos rookie minicamp. It's unclear as of this writing whether Harris, who's drawing interest from "multiple teams," accepted the invitation.

Harris, 27, led the upstart league in sacks (9.5) last season playing under former Broncos defensive boss Wade Phillips, now the Roughnecks' head coach. He also added 16 solo tackles, 12 tackles-for-loss, and three quarterback hits across nine games.

"He’s a good player and would be a good special teamer,'' Phillips told 9NEWS' Mike Klis on Tuesday. "He is a good special teamer so if he isn’t a starter he’ll be able to help you. Smart guy, athletic. He set the record for sacks in the XFL.’’

Prior to his XFL stint, Harris — a 2018 undrafted free agent — made 19 appearances for the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants, totaling 34 combined tackles (20 solo), three QB hits, and two sacks. He's logged 367 career defensive snaps and 104 special-teams reps.

If signed, Harris could provide some juice to a Broncos pass-rushing unit that went largely unaddressed in the 2023 draft, joining a group that includes outside linebackers Randy Gregory, Baron Browning, Nik Bonitto, and Jonathon Cooper.

“I think he can come in and rush the passer and play special teams if nothing else,'' Phillips told Klis. "He can run. He’s athletic. He’s better than a lot of guys I had (in the NFL).
