Broncos RT Mike McGlinchey Leaves Practice Due to Injury

In this story:
After claiming wide receiver Tim Patrick and inside linebacker Jonas Griffith, the injury bug wasn't done sinking its teeth into the Denver Broncos.
The latest victim is new starting right tackle Mike McGlinchey, who left Tuesday's training camp practice with an apparent leg issue. McGlinchey reportedly had a player roll into his leg during a 9-on-7 drill; he was examined by the training staff before walking off to the locker room.
Head coach Sean Payton did not speak at the conclusion of practice, and offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi — made available to the media instead — had no update on McGlinchey's status.
"I don't know what happened. I saw him go down, but I don't have any details," Lombardi said.
Denver's biggest free-agent splash this offseason, McGlinchey was handed a five-year, $87.5 million contract with the hope of stabilizing a position that's long haunted the organization. The 2018 first-round pick defected to the Broncos following five seasons in San Francisco, where he established himself among the top run-blocking tackles.
McGlinchey, 28, was signed in tandem with former Baltimore Ravens standout Ben Powers — who became the NFL's sixth-highest-paid guard, landing $13 million annually across five years — as Denver quickly rebuilt an offensive line that surrendered a league-high 63 sacks in 2022.
"You look at all the tape, then you look at the makeup and the intelligence," Payton said of the pair in March. "We felt like they were really good fits for what we want to do. There was a consistency that you saw, that you felt like you were getting each week."
McGlinchey missed the opening week of camp due to a death in his family, leaving starting reps to primary swing tackle Cameron Fleming, who will remain atop the depth chart for as long as (or if) McGlinchey is sidelined.
Other candidates who could see increased playing time heading into Friday's preseason opener at Arizona include fifth-year veteran OT Isaiah Prince and undrafted rookies Demontrey Jacobs and Alex Palczewski.
"I feel like it's as good a third group of offensive linemen as I've been around," Lombardi said. "I think the depth is really good."
