Browns Complete Another Restructure; Now Lead NFL in Cap Space

In this story:
Apparently the Cleveland Browns weren't done yet when they restructured the contract of Joel Bitonio over the weekend. It is now being reported that the team has also restructured the contract of star pass-rusher Myles Garrett.
The move will reportedly free up nearly $13M against the 2023 salary cap and brings the total available amount the Browns have to spend over $34M.
The restructure simply moves money from what is considered his base salary and converts it into bonuses. It creates room up front just like a credit card but over time that bill will become due. The Browns and other teams feel this strategy gives them an advantage due to calculating that the overall salary cap will continue to increase in coming years.
The Browns are only likely to restructure deals in this manner for players that they know will be here for a certain length of time. They restructured Deshaun Watson's contract earlier this offseason in what will likely become an annual event. After Bitonio's deal was restructured, it was just a matter of time before they did the same with Myles Garrett.
For those fans hoping that the team will now run out and make a big signing or trade for a player, I wouldn't hold my breath. NFL rules allow teams to rollover a percentage of their unused cap for next season and this move helps them counter the overall spending as they have led the league for several years in a row. This move could potentially help keep this team a little more intact but Andrew Berry will still have difficult decisions next offseason.
