How Much Did Myles Garrett Shift Odds For Defensive Player Of The Year?

After a monstrous performance in Week 7, Garrett is now tied with one other player for the best betting odds to win Defensive Player of the Year

If you placed a futures bet prior to the season on Myles Garrett to win Defensive Player of the Year, you had to love what the All-Pro defensive end achieved in the Cleveland Browns’ 39-38 win Sunday over the Colts.

Garrett practically won the game for the Browns with two sacks, one pass breakup, two forced fumbles (one of them leading to a Browns defensive touchdown) and nine tackles, his highest in a game since Week 4 of 2018. Those numbers also include his incredible field-goal block, where he shot out of a four-point stance to leap over linemen at the line of scrimmage and block a 60-yard field-goal attempt from Matt Gay.

Garrett built one of the best defensive performances ever by an edge rusher in recent memory, and his betting odds toward winning Defensive Player of the Year have adjusted accordingly.

DraftKings now lists Garrett with +200 odds to win DPOY, which is tied with Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons for the shortest in the league. Parsons has been leading the NFL for most of the year, but Garrett — who started the year with +800 odds to win the award — has surged to his level two multi-sack performances in the least two games.

Garrett stands alone at third in the NFL with 7.5 sacks this season, which is just a half-sack behind Vikings edge rusher Danielle Hunter and Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt.

Watt isn’t far behind Garrett and Parsons in DPOY odds, either, and currently sits a +225 to win the award.

Garrett’s case for the award has also been slightly aided by a “slow” start for Parsons — he has five sacks and one forced fumble through the first six games.

There’s still 11 weeks left for someone to separate themselves from the pack, but Garrett has made up considerable ground in the odds department.

If he continues his tear, he could end up with the first DPOY award of his elite career.
