Another Day Another Restructure, This Time Njoku

In this story:
Apparently the Cleveland Browns still aren't done when it comes to creating more cap space. They had recently restructured the contracts of Joel Bitonio and Myles Garrett in previous days. Now it is now being reported that the team has also restructured the contract of tight end David Njoku.
The move will reportedly free up nearly $2.736M against the 2023 salary cap and brings the total available amount the Browns now have close to $37M which tops the NFL.
The restructure simply moves money from what is considered his base salary and converts it into bonuses. It creates room up front just like a credit card but over time that bill will become due. The Browns and other teams feel this strategy gives them an advantage due to calculating that the overall salary cap will continue to increase in coming years.
The Browns are only likely to restructure deals in this manner for players that they know will be here for some time. They restructured Deshaun Watson's contract earlier this offseason in what will likely become an annual event for years. After Bitonio's deal was restructured, it was just a matter of time before they did the same with Myles Garrett. Today's move with Njoku is somewhat surprising coming this soon after but he was always somebody that it would make sense for.
Speculation about a big move coming has been rampant for days since Bitonio was announced. This will only add more fuel to that fire but I still don't expect anything. NFL rules allow teams to rollover a percentage of their unused cap for next season and this move helps them counter the overall spending as they have led the league for several years in a row. These moves will be helpful keeping this roster together for next season.
