Reinforcements are on the way for the Cleveland Browns just in time for the playoffs.

On Wednesday, the team announced it was designating safety Grant Delpit for return off the injured reserve. That doesn't necessarily mean he will be playing this weekend when Cleveland heads to Houston to open up Super Wild Card Weekend on Saturday. Essentially it means he will return to practice and the team now has 21 days to activate him back onto the active roster or he will revert back to the IR.

On Tuesday head coach Kevin Stefanski noted that Delpit "could be" activated this week.

The 25-year-old last played for Cleveland in Week 14, in a 31-27 win over the Jaguars. He exited that game with a groin injury and wound up needing surgery. The timing of the injury couldn't have been more unfortunate as news of Delpit signing a three-year, $36 million extension with the team came down prior to kickoff with Jacksonville. One day later, the former second-round pick signed the deal knowing his regular season was over.

Delpit was having one of the best seasons of his career prior to the injury. He finished with 80 total tackles, a career high seven for a loss and one and a half sacks. He's also snared one interception. Last week, Delpit was rewarded for his efforts by being voted a Pro Bowl alternate.

Numerous injuries have threatened to derail the Browns season this year. Including Delpit, 14 players ended the year on the team's IR.
