Browns Release Defensive Tackle to Make Shelby Harris Signing Official

On Thursday morning, the Cleveland Browns made the reported signing of veteran defensive tackle Shelby Harris official, announcing it on the team's website. To make room on the roster, the team waived defensive tackle Michael Dwumfour.

Dwumfour, (6'1", 296 lbs) was originally an undrafted free agent signed by the Jets in 2021. He played in College at both Michigan and Rutgers and played in games for the Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers. He had a total of 13 tackles and recorded 0.5 sacks in his 12 games that he played.

It has been reported that Harris signed a one-year deal worth a maximum of $5.25M. Harris brings nine years of veteran experience to solidify the middle of Browns new defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz's defensive line.

Additions to the defensive line have been the focus for General Manager Andrew Berry this offseason. Harris now joins newcomers Dalvin Tomlinson, and rookie Siaki Ika at defensive tackle, and edge rushers Ogbo Okoronkwo, Za'Darius Smith and rookie Isaiah McGuire, to upgrade the rest of a defensive front that features Myles Garrett.

Over the course of Harris's career he has played in a total of 98 games and recorded 24.5 sacks. In 2022, he finished with an overall grade of 73.2 from Pro Football Focus. Harris is the final piece to this roster on the defensive side of the ball that will hopefully make some noise in the AFC this year.
