Could The Browns Open The 2024 Season In Brand New International Game?

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell revealed the first participant in the league's newest entry to their international slate of games in São Paulo, Brazil.

It'll be the Philadelphia Eagles as the designated home team for the contest, which Goodell also announced would be played on in Week 1 of the season on Friday, Sept. 6. It's the league's first Friday game of the opening week of the season since 1970. Philly's opponent for the debut international showdown won't be revealed until later this spring, in advance of the full-schedule release in May.

With the AFC North set to square off with the NFC East in 2024, the Browns could be impacted by this announcement as one of the teams lined up for a road matchup with the Eagles. Beyond their division foes and Cleveland, other potential opponents that could be in play to battle Philadelphia in Brazil include the Steelers, Jaguars, Falcons, Panthers and Packers.

For what it's worth, the Browns have only played in one international game since the NFL made the practice an annual thing in 2007. Cleveland's lone appearance came in 2017 when they traveled to London to face the Vikings in late October. Minnesota wound up winning that game 33-16.

The Browns are also one of only seven teams that have played one international game to this point. Pittsburgh, Carolina, Washington, Dallas, Green Bay and Philadelphia itself make up the rest of that list.

Of that group of teams, the Eagles and Panthers are already part of the NFL's international schedule for 2024 as they're the designated team playing in Munich Germany. The Bears, Vikings and Jaguars will each play a game in London next year.
