Freddie Kitchens discussing the right guard position

Freddie Kitchens was asked about the right guard position two different times and he explained that he's in no hurry to name a starter, that they are evaluating what guys can do right now and nothing really happens at that position until they put on pads.

A popular topic in light of Kevin Zeitler's exit via trade is the right guard position. The Cleveland Browns have had at least three players take first team reps between OTAs and minicamp so far with Austin Corbett, Kyle Kalis and Eric Kush. In the times the media has been around, Kalis coincidentally was the guy that they kept seeing in prompting them to notice it, write about it.

Freddie Kitchens isn't unwilling to talk about it, but he just seems to find it humorous that some are running with the idea that any of the three is ahead of the others. He noted that so much of unpadded practices with offensive linemen are determining what they can do, potential options with them. He keeps mentioning versatility in his answer.

Overall, he has said that nothing with the offensive line will be determined until the players have pads on and are actually blocking someone. They have a depth chart, but it doesn't mean much at this point.

And whether he got in a few questions late or wasn't paying attention, Jeff Schudel asked about right guard the second time in the media availability, which appears to be the reason that Kitchens was laughing. He repeated his earlier point that nothing with offensive linemen will be determined until they have pads on.
