When you're playing in the shadow of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, is there really any other choice but to start fast?

The Browns received the opening kick and had their first possession start at the 23 yard line. After an incomplete pass, the team turned to second-year man, Jerome Ford on second down. He took the second down carry off the right side for a reasonable gain of seven yards.

Then on 3rd and 2, the Browns used a little misdirection to spring Ford into the Colts' secondary.

After getting through the defensive line, Ford hit his second and third gear and was off to the races for the opening drive 69-yard touchdown. The touchdown run is the longest run of Ford's young career.

Starting fast was an emphasis for the Browns this week and being able to lean on Ford to break the seal on this game is huge. Also, converting on third down is something that the Browns have struggled with so far this year. They are ranked 31st in the league with a 30.6 percent conversation rate.

Using the run game to build a lead, convert on third down, and begin to build some consistency on offense is a big advantage for the Browns.

Ford is having a nice year in relief of Browns' star, Nick Chubb. On the year so far, Ford has 67 carries for 270 yards and two touchdowns. He also has 12 catches on 15 targets for 84 yards and two receiving scores.

As today and the year continue to progress, Ford is going to need to continue being a key component of this Browns' offense. With Deshaun Watson and the passing game still trying to find their chemistry, Kevin Stefanski and the Browns will continue to lean on their run game.

We will be tracking this game live with updates here.
