Numbers Revealed for Browns Players Acquired in Offseason

In this story:
As the Cleveland Browns opened their offseason program, the team announced new numbers for players acquired in the offseason. While not necessarily set in stone, it's an early indication of the choices players have made at this point in time. Some of the choices were expected, while there were some surprises.
Bad number choices may not have a proven impact on the play of the wearer, but that doesn't mean they aren't getting judged.
Elijah Moore has chosen 8. He actually put up posted on twitter that he was either going with 8 or 0, inviting input.
8 or 0 👀

Moore opted for 8, keeping the number he wore at Ole Miss as well as the New York Jets. Either would've been fine, but if he put it to a poll, 0 likely would've won.
Safety Juan Thornhill has opted for 1. The last player to wear 1 for the Browns was wide receiver Michael Jackson in the 1992 season. Thornhill wore 21 in college, which belongs to Denzel Ward. He wore 22 for the Kansas City Chiefs, which is worn by Grant Delpit. Bold, but it could work for Juan, who has immediately taken some ownership with his new team and wants to be a focal point.
Dalvin Tomlinson, the Browns husky defensive tackle will reprise 94 with the Browns, the number he's had his entire NFL career. Tomlinson wore 94 for both the New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings before joining the Browns.
Edge rusher Ogbonnia Okoronkwo is going with 54. He tried to get 7 and be 007, but the league wouldn't let him. Previously, Okoronkwo wore 45 with the Houston Texans. Whether it's 45 or 54, these are questionable number choices and immediately raise concerns about the decision to sign the ascending pass rusher. Should he fail to achieve a double digit sack season, the number is to blame. How good would he look in a number in the 90s?
Marquise Goodwin is going with 19. Adding to his collection of numbers he's worn in his career, one can only assume he checked with current wide receivers coach Frisman Jackson to see if he could wear that proud mantle. Previously, Goodwin has worn 88 with the Buffalo Bills, currently worn by Harrison Bryant. He wore 11 with both the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks. Donovan Peoples-Jones has given that number a good home. Goodwin wore 84 with the Chicago Bears for a season and new tight end Jordan Akins took that.
Goodwin stands out as someone who may change numbers before all is said and done, but it would be nice to see another talented receiving threat wear 19.
Akins has spent his entire career up to this point with the Houston Texans where he wore 88. Now, he's in 84 and could be another one who ends up switching jerseys at some point.
Quarterback Joshua Dobbs is in 15 again, the number he wore the last time he was with the Browns. That seems normal for Dobbs, but it would've been interesting if he opted to go with 1, the number he had in a brief stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Matthew Adams, a special teamer and linebacker is opting for 40. That might not suggest much confidence in his making the roster, but he has always worn a number in the 40s, wearing 44 with the Bears and 49 with the Indianapolis Colts. Still, not the prettiest number for an alleged linebacker.
Mike Ford, the other special teams signing who also plays defensive back has opted for 27.
Defensive tackles Trysten Hill and Maurice Hurst are wearing 98 and 90 respectively. 98 is the number Hill wore with the Arizona Cardinals last season, but he's also worn 97 and 72 when was with the Dallas Cowboys. Choosing 72 might be why he ended up with the Cardinals. Hurst is going with 90 after wearing 73 with the Las Vegas Raiders and 96 with the 49ers. Needless to say, he's not getting 73 in Cleveland.
Last but not least, local boy Wes Martin has opted for 67 as part of the offensive line.
