Quarterback Baker Mayfield was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to join the franchise on a one-year deal. The Buccaneers only had one quarterback under contract prior to Mayfield's arrival in Tampa Bay, Kyle Trask.

The Buccaneers' coaching and front office staff have been adamant in giving Kyle Trask a shot at becoming the team's starting quarterback job. However, they also weren't shy, letting it be known that they intended on doing whatever necessary to sure up the quarterback room.

Now with Baker in the fold, the Bucs' QB roster sits at two. I fully expect them to bring in another QB - whether through FA or the draft - but do not expect that quarterback to be in competition for the starting gig.

Baker Mayfield has had his ups and downs in the NFL and Trask hasn't gotten a legitimate shot at being an NFL starter since he was backing up Tom Brady and Blaine Gabbert.

It seems that the Bucs' staff let Mayfield know he would indeed be competing for the team's starting job, along with Trask. In his introductory press conference, Mayfield was generally excited about the opportunity to go against Trask this off-season.

"I've always been a big fan. I thought he was really talented coming out and I'm excited for it. To me, competition brings the best out in everybody, I've always believed that and that's just true for all sports. It teaches you how to compete, teaches you how to win and lose the right way, and there's learning processes along the way. I think Kyle and I are going to push each other no matter what happens and I think we're going to make the most of it."

Baker led off by stating that he was a fan of Trask's when he was coming out of college and that he thinks competition brings the best out of everyone.

Mayfield understands the point he is at in his career and is just trying to make the best out of the opportunity given to him. Whether he wins the job or not it is clear that Mayfield will have a positive influence on the guys within the Buccaneers' locker room; from both an on-field competitive aspect as well as from just being a veteran leader to help with the transition post-Tom Brady.
