Buccaneers Free Agent Baker Mayfield Projected to Land $100 Million Deal

Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ QB Baker Mayfield’s next contract was predicted by the player contract website Spotrac.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have plenty to think about as they quickly approach the free agency period. The Bucs find themselves in a much better situation this offseason compared to last as they will no longer be in “salary cap hell” with much of the players from the Tom Brady now off the books. This offseason will be about retaining key cogs in the machine in the likes of QB Baker Mayfield, WR Mike Evans, LB Lavonne David, and S Antoine Winfield Jr. all set to hit the market come March unless a deal gets done with the team beforehand.

For the Bucs and their QB, all signs seem to point to both sides willing to agree on an extension. However, there could be some fluidity when it comes to reaching an agreement between the Buccaneers and Baker Mayfield as he will likely want to see if Mike Evans re-signs with the franchise giving himself his top weapon back on offense. Even so, Baker and the Buccaneers seem keen on tiring the knot once again and in doing so Spotrac decided to take a look at the type of contract the two sides could possibly be at.

According to player contract website Spotrac, Buccaneers’ quarterback Baker Mayfield is set to get a long-term extension that will work out for both the player and the team for the next several seasons.

"Quick Details
4 years, $120,000,000
$30,000,000 AAV
$53M Guaranteed at Signing
$85M Practically Guaranteed

Baker's comeback has been one of the more enjoyable storylines of the past few seasons, culminating with a playoff win this past season with the Bucs. Tampa Bay is trying to keep Baker off of the open market at the final hour. We've projected a contract that essentially plays like a cap-adjusted version of Geno Smith's deal in Seattle while using a double bonus structure to keep cap hits insanely low over the next two seasons.”

Salvaging massive cap hits is always a win and, with this scenario, Baker gets the long-term extension he has coveted since his time with the Browns while also getting a nice payday along the way. As free agency inches closer it will be imperative to see where talks go on all fronts for the Buccaneers especially when it comes to how they will be able to sway their current stars to stay.
