Buccaneers Get Most Fantasy Football Boost from UCLA RB Zach Charbonnet says NFL.com

Not all fantasy football value translates to real-life, but if the Tampa Bay Buccaneers take UCLA running back Zach Charbonnet, they may get a little of both.

The question isn't whether or not we think the Tampa Bay Buccaneers need to add running back depth in the upcoming NFL Draft.

No, the question is, 'Where should the Bucs add running back depth in the NFL Draft?'

A first-round pick spent on Texas Longhorns star back Bijan Robinson might be too much for many, but what about a Day 2 pick spent on UCLA's Zach Charbonnet?

Charbonnet could present an interesting pairing with current Tampa Bay running back Rachaad White, and according to NFL.com's Cynthia Frelund, he would make the most fantasy football sense as well.

"He fits the best at the Bucs," Frelund said when projecting Charbonnet's best fantasy football fit. "Why? He's a versatile running back. He has a really nice situation going on with yards after the catch and an ability to shift directions."

White himself showed a lot of potential after being a third-round pick of the Buccaneers in 2022.

He did well enough in fact that general manager Jason Licht felt comfortable releasing veteran running back Leonard Fournette, and as of yet hasn't made any additions beyond Chase Edmonds who projects to play a backup role at best.

In Charbonnet, the Bucs could get back to work with White as a partner to lead the ground game, not just an understudy.

"(He's a) big physical running back," NFL.com's Bucky Brooks says of Charbonnet. "You think of him just as a banger - a guy that does all the dirty work in between the tackles - but he can catch the ball out the backfield. It's hard to find these big backs that are over 220 pounds that can make plays, not only as a runner but as a pass catcher. He has some of that ability."

Having two guys to carry - and catch - the ball out of the backfield with reliable skills and versatile traits would help the Bucs continue to present problems for opposing defenses as the team figures out its quarterback situation.

And Charbonnet would come at less of a draft capital expense than Robinson while being arguably the best option in this NFL Draft's second-tier of running backs.
