In this story:

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' defense has played like a top-10 unit in the league thus far through six games outside of a few lapses here and there. They have stifled running games and come away with timely turnovers that have propelled the Buccaneers to their three wins and kept them in others that they lost.

Defense clearly isn't the Buccaneers' problem in 2023, rather, it is the Buccaneers' offense that has struggled up to this point and it is not only becoming clear to the fans but also to those within the Tampa Bay locker room.

Following the Bucs' deflating 16-13 loss to NFC South foe the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs spoke on being in a position to win the game in the final three minutes in which he gave flowers to the Bucs' defense for their work while calling out his comrades on the offensive side of the ball.

"Yeah, [Safety] Antoine [Winfield] and the defense kept us in the fight the whole time. How many points did they have, seventeen or something? Like, getting that takeaway on the one-yard line, punching it out, it's an incredibly smart play, incredibly high effort play, and that's the type of player he is. We [have] to help out our defense. They're holding teams under 20 points, [and] we have to put more points on the board for them."

Antoine Winfield Jr. absolutely would be deserving of the game ball if the Bucs had indeed pulled this one off, but sadly they did not. The Buccaneers need consistency on the offensive side of the ball if they want to turn their start of the season around and see success. They will get their next chance on short rest as they head to Orchard Park, New York to take on the Buffalo Bills on Thursday Night Football.
