Tampa Bay Buccaneers Add Two to Pro Bowl Games; WR Mike Evans OUT

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are sending Baker Mayfield and Tristan Wirfs to the NFL Pro Bowl games while Mike Evans will miss the event.

When the Pro Bowl rosters were announced the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had just one name on them as receiver Mike Evans was the lone representative.

The team announced on Tuesday, however, that Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield and offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs have been added to the games while Evans will miss the event due to injury.

"Mayfield, who was recently selected as 2023’s Most Improved Player by the Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA), is a first-time Pro Bowl selection after putting forth a 2023 season in which he established career highs in completions (364), passing yards (4,044), passing touchdowns (28) and completion percentage (64.3%)," Tampa Bay said via press release. "He was 1-of-2 players this season with 28-or-more passing touchdowns and 10-or-fewer interceptions, joining Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Mayfield ranked among league-leaders in passing touchdowns (seventh), passing yards (ninth), completions (10th) and passer rating (12th). He became the second player in Buccaneers history to throw for 4,000+ yards, 25-or-more touchdowns and 10-or-fewer interceptions in a single season, along with Tom Brady (2022)."

Speaking of Prescott, Mayfield is replacing the Cowboys quarterback who will miss the games due to injury.

Wirfs is replacing San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Trent Williams who will miss the event because he and his team are preparing to face the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII.

This is Wirfs' third Pro Bowl appearance in his four NFL seasons and is just the second Bucs offensive lineman to make three-straight trips to the All-Star Game joining Tony Mayberry who did it from 1997-99.

Mayfield becomes the Buccaneers' third quarterback in franchise history to make it to the Pro Bowl in his first year with the team, and the sixth overall.
