Tampa Bay Buccaneers Anticipate Having '15-18 New Guys' Next Season

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in the beginning stages of crafting their 2024 roster, and turnover is expected.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have some tough decisions to make according to coach Todd Bowles, and the coach says he expects to have some turnover on the roster between now and the 2024 NFL Season.

"You’re going to lose some free agents, you’re going to lose some to injury, some to retirement," the Buccaneers coach said about his players and the state of his roster. "You’re going to have 15-18 new guys every year, so the draft, you need to get half of that right to have about six or seven guys that are going to help contribute."

However, Bowles also says that's not a unique situation to this season alone, but rather something Tampa Bay is always aware of and anticipating each new year.

After having memories of returning every starter from the Bucs' 2020 Super Bowl-winning roster hearing the coach mention more than a dozen new faces coming in might sound like a lot, but is really just par for the course it appears.

And if that's a constant, so too is the Buccaneers' ability to locate talent up and down the draft boards thanks to solid scouting and decision-making by general manager Jason Licht and his staff.

"I think the scouting staff does a great job of identifying talent that fits us, that are our type of players and bringing them in here and we know what to expect as coaches and how to use them," Bowles continued. "We make that work as a group. We make that work as a group. There’s a great chemistry that goes on upstairs between the scouting staff and the coaching staff [so] we get the right players that fit our system that help us win.”

This year, that included bringing on impact rookies like outside linebacker YaYa Diaby, safety Christian Izien, defensive lineman Calijah Kancey, offensive lineman Cody Mauch, and receiver Trey Palmer.

Another class like that one in the 2024 NFL Draft, and Tampa Bay will have a good roster built to overcome the loss of offensive coordinator Dave Canales, and the potential departure of receivers coach Brad Idzik.
