Todd Bowles Provides Injury Updates On Ryan Jensen And John Wolford

In this story:
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the New York Jets, 13-6, in their second preseason game on Saturday night. During the course of the victory, third-string quarterback John Wolford took a scary hit and went down for a few minutes. He was eventually carted off the field and hospitalized for precautionary reasons.

Head coach Todd Bowles stated on Sunday morning that Wolford traveled back to Tampa with the team. It sounds like he passed all of the tests and dodged what could have been a much more serious injury.
"He's feeling better. He's moving around, so that's the best we can offer right now," Bowles said. "The tests came out pretty [well], so we'll just see how he recovers."
The official designation is a neck injury for Wolford. The team released an update that stated he had all movement in his extremities shortly after going down. Wolford completed 4/4 passes for 57 yards prior to exiting the game.
"Right now, it's a neck injury. We're still evaluating him but it's a neck injury right now," Bowles said.
Outside of Wolford, Bowles also briefly discussed the status of starting center Ryan Jensen. Coming off a severe knee injury that he suffered over a year ago, Jensen has been a sparse participant in training camp as of late and he didn't travel with the team to New Jersey.
Jensen hasn't taken any reps during team drills so far this preseason which isn't very comforting as the regular season is just a couple of weeks away. The knee is clearly still giving him trouble despite the fact that he was able to suit up for Tampa Bay's Wild Card loss to Dallas in January.
"It's status quo right now. We haven't made a decision on the starting center. We'll watch the tape and we'll evaluate it from there," Bowles said. "It was status quo – we didn't think traveling him [Jensen] on the plane would be any better for his knee so we left him home."
If Jensen is unavailable for the Buccaneers' season-opener against the Minnesota Vikings, the team will probably turn to Robert Hainsey as its second option. Leverett didn't suit up on Saturday night while dealing with soreness from the past week.
There are still nine days remaining until NFL teams have to trim down their rosters to 53 players. At this point, Tampa Bay might have to begin considering if its best option for this year is to place Ryan Jensen on Injured Reserve. There's no upside in risking him further if his knee is still an issue.
