Trey McBride Hits Cardinals Milestone With Clutch Catch

It's about time a tight end had a 100-yard game.

ARIZONA -- The Arizona Cardinals have seen history re-written by tight end Trey McBride.

Against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 10, McBride became the first Cardinals tight end since Rob Awalt back in 1989 to have a 100-yard receiving performance.

It couldn't have come at a better time.

With under a minute left and Arizona trailing 23-24, Kyler Murray hit McBride deep down the right sideline for a 34-yard gain to set up the eventual game-winning field goal from Matt Prater.

Arizona won 25-23, gaining their second win of the season.

McBride - a second-year tight end out of Colorado State - has stepped up in a major way since Zach Ertz departed to injured reserve with a knee injury. At this point, it's likely McBride has unseated the veteran of his starting status.

Heading into Week 10, McBride caught 28 of 40 targets for 287 yards and one score. He nearly hit the 100-yard mark against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 8 where he caught 10 passes for 95 yards.

McBride has more than twice as many receptions in his last four games than he did in his first five games of the season (8). His 28 catches this season are the second most on the team trailing only WR Marquise Brown (42)

The Cardinals were 1-8 heading into today but welcomed back the talents of Kyler Murray and James Conner to the offense.

Despite the poor outing in the first half of the season, McBride spoke a few weeks ago on how close the Cardinals are from figuring things out.

“We’re in every game, we’re so close to winning and I think with the fight, the toughness, and the resilience that our team is showing we’re not that far off. It’s very encouraging to see the fight that we have, it’s not like we’re getting blown out or giving up, we’re fighting until the very end. It’s very encouraging to see that as a player.”

There's hope the Cardinals will build on this momentum moving forward.
