Chargers News: Secondary Trio Poised To Prove Their Worth

Extra motivation this week.

Your Bolts have their hands full in their Week 6 Monday Night Football showdown with the Dallas Cowboys, as on the offensive side of the ball, Dallas has a number of playmakers that must have eyes kept on them.

Led by CeeDee Lamb, who recorded 1,359 yards in just his 3rd season last year, the Cowboys receiving corps is capable of doing serious damage against a statistically poor Chargers secondary.

Speedsters Brandin Cooks and Michael Gallup, along with running back Tony Pollard who is a big-play threat as a receiver out of the backfield, the Bolts have their work cut out for them.

Luckily, they're operating with confidence, a fact third-year cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. recently confirmed, per Eric Smith of Chargers.com.

"I feel good about our trio... we just come to work every day and try to execute the calls. We just have to play together and stay on one accord.

The trio Samuel is referring to is himself, Michael Davis, and Ja'Sir Taylor, with Taylor playing the slot.

Smith reports that this group has started the past two games and helped cut down the number of explosive pass plays (15-plus yards) allowed.

When J.C. Jackson was a part of the secondary (Weeks 1 and 2), however, the Chargers allowed a league-worst 20 explosive pass plays. He has since been dealt to the New England Patriots.

Overall, Smith explains that "Chargers players and coaches on the defensive side of the ball believe this is the strongest combination of cornerbacks for the Bolts to go forward with."

If the team has confidence, so should the fans. The Bolts are in good position to contain Dallas this weekend.
