Dak Prescott Doubters? Only Cowboys Super Bowl Can Silence Them - ESPN

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has his fair share of detractors, and former Steelers star Ryan Clark says that he will never silence them until that elusive Lombardi trophy is won.

Few players in the NFL divide opinion quite like Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Having been in the league since 2016, Dak has generally put up big numbers but has come up short in the postseason, most recently in back-to-back seasons against the San Francisco 49ers.

Prescott has his fair share of doubters who think he will never lead Dallas to Super Bowl glory. Former Pittsburgh Steelers star Ryan Clark says Prescott's doubters will only be silenced once a Super Bowl is won.

"Doubters won't be silenced," Clark said on ESPN's GetUp. "If you doubt him, you doubt him. Nothing's going to change that. These are the doubters that say Dak Prescott can't be a Super Bowl-caliber or Super Bowl-winning quarterback."

After leading the NFL in interceptions last season with 15, many now see Dak as a "turnover machine," despite being relatively careful with the football throughout his career.

Recency bias is at play here as many fixate on last year but forget how little Prescott put the ball in harm's way in previous seasons ... and Clark points this out.

"If you go back to 2019 and 2021, Dak Prescott was a top-five quarterback in this league," Clark said. "I believe in '19 he had 30 touchdowns and 10 picks, then in 2021, 37 touchdowns and only 11 interceptions. If he backs off the interceptions, protects the football as we have known Dak Prescott to protect the football his entire career, he's better than what he was last year."

So, the thought that Prescott is a turnover merchant is false, and while we can't ignore his 15 interceptions last season and his two in the Divisional Round vs. the 49ers, there seems to be a narrative building around Dak.

With the Cowboys' NFC Championship drought extending beyond 10,000 days, Dallas feels like it's in the "Super Bowl sweet spot" this season.

With the roster loaded on both sides of the ball, many feel this is the Cowboys' best chance at getting to the NFC Championship Game. However, for Clark, Prescott's doubters will be clinging to the former Mississippi State quarterback until he does what the likes of Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach have done ... win a Super Bowl.

"Let's be real, for Dak Prescott, it's Super Bowl or bust," Clark said. "For him, it's about taking that next step as a quarterback, and I believe until he does that, the doubters won't be silenced."
