Dak Prescott MVP Odds? No. 2 Behind Mahomes; 'Dude's Slinging It!' Say Dallas Cowboys of Elite QB

Dak Prescott MVP Odds? No. 2 Behind Mahomes; 'Dude's Slinging It!' Say Dallas Cowboys of Elite QB

The Dallas Cowboys offense is on fire, and a large credit for that goes to quarterback Dak Prescott.

Dak was named NFC Offensive Player of the Month on Thursday, and how did he follow up that award? Just by throwing for 299 yards and three scores in a 41-35 "Thursday Night Football'' win over the Seattle Seahawks.

And how has the public reacted? Dak just jumped to No. 2, according to oddsmakers, in the NFL MVP race, trailing only the Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes - who, by the way, has numbers that are inferior to Prescott's.

One of those scores went to tight end Jake Ferguson who discussed his quarterback's hot streak in the locker room after the game.

"The dude’s slinging it," Ferguson said. "I have the ultimate confidence in him. I mean he’s making these plays and throws in practice, so it doesn’t really surprise me. That’s the kind of guy he is. That’s the kind of quarterback he is. That’s the kind of man he is and that’s someone you want to get behind. I’m good with that, and he’s our leader, so I’m right behind him. I tell him that every day."

Alongside his clutch receiving touchdown that gave Dallas the lead in the fourth quarter, Ferguson finished the night with six receptions for 77 yards against Seattle.

One could argue that the Cowboys needed a win like they received on Thursday night. It was the first win for Dallas on the season against a team with a winning record, and they had to overcome adversity to secure it, something that had not been the case in multiple blowout wins this season.

"That’s the game of football," Ferguson said. "Everything’s not going to be a blowout. Everything’s not going to be a big score, little score. I think that shows this team's resilience and this team's fight on all sides of the ball. It was a great team win."

This type of performance from Prescott and company will be needed in excess next week. The 9-3 Cowboys welcome the 10-1 Philadelphia Eagles to AT&T Stadium on "Sunday Night Football,'' and if Dallas has any hope of challenging for the NFC East crown, that's a win it will need to claim as well.

Kickoff next Sunday is set for 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC. ... and Dak already sounds ready ... to rise in the MVP rankings and to ignore the shrinking number of critics.

"I understand nobody's opinion defines me, that's the great part about life and that's the great opportunity that we all have, that people can say whatever they want,'' he said. "But I have the pen, I have the paper and I'm the one writing. So, because I'm playing as well as I am now doesn't mean I'm going to stop, doesn't mean I'm going to listen to them now."
