Cowboys Ex Coach Adam Henry to Bills? Dallas OUT on OBJ Signing?

Former Dallas Cowboys receivers coach Adam Henry is in talks, CowboysSI.com is reporting, to join the Buffalo Bills. Could Odell Beckham Jr. tag along via free agency?

FRISCO - Adam Henry sports an impressive resume that is much more than just his connection with a high-profile pupil.

But yes, when the former Dallas Cowboys receivers coach is rumored to be getting hired in the same role, this time with the Buffalo Bills as happened on Wednesday, thoughts naturally turn to ...

Odell Beckham Jr.

First, a note: The reports from national media are/were premature; they occurred at 3:21 p.m. ET, but now hours later, CowboysSI.com is told by sources that the Bills have not finalized the deal with the respected coach.

But assuming this does go down ...

Henry, who has NFL coaching experience with five different teams, was most recently the co-offensive coordinator and receivers at the University of Indiana this past season after leaving Dallas in 2021.

The Bills were in the market for a new receivers coach after Chad Hall took the same role with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

But, with time, the addition of Henry could prove more valuable for Buffalo ... while potentially ending a dream for Dallas.

There is a perception that Henry is "buddies'' with players like OBJ. But as Henry told CowboysSI.com when he worked in Dallas ...

"I'm not a 'player's coach. I do have a level of connection with players. But expectations are expectations. There is a level of excellence that must be met. The players play. The coaches coach.

"I'm not a 'player's coach. I'm a 'coaches coach.'''

Henry, 50, a native of Beaumont, Texas, was the passing game coordinator and receivers coach with the LSU Tigers from 2012 through 2014, and during that time, he built a strong relationship with star receiver and three-time Pro Bowler OBJ.

Of course, Beckham Jr., despite being a free agent, was at the center of attention this past season after a constant back-and-forth with him and the Dallas front office launched the hype that he'd sign with the Cowboys into the stratosphere.

After OBJ made an appearance at a Dallas Mavs game with Cowboys stars Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs, it seemed the news of his signing was inevitable.

Instead, none of the teams rumored to be interested in the star pass-catcher pulled the trigger, as Beckham Jr. remained unsigned.

But with Henry now arriving to Buffalo, any sort of last gasp the Cowboys had at OBJ could be gone. The Bills were one of the handful of teams speculated to make a run at signing Beckham Jr. during the season as he recovered from a torn ACL, but they settled with the talent they had in the receivers room.

One of the biggest topics of improvement for Buffalo this offseason has been centered around depth at receiver behind Stefon Diggs. No. 2 pass-catcher Gabe Davis is set to be a free agent next offseason and the talent on the depth chart falls off a bit after him. Signing Beckham Jr. makes sense for Buffalo from a personnel standpoint.

With this newfound connection, the Bills could have a leg-up over the Cowboys in a sweepstakes that could come back alive during the offseason.
